Eurotrip Day 6 - Vienna

(Part 6 of a series.)

The word "sausage" always come next to Vienna because of the common canned product found in the supermarkets. But of course, Vienna is more than just sausages. It's an entire city filled with culture and history.

For me, when I hear Vienna, classical music always comes to mind. I always hear Vivaldi's Four Seasons, starting with spring. I get it that you hear it while you're reading this.

A Few Key Places
We only visited a few places.

The Schönbrunn Palace has amazing architecture and it has a museum that shows its vibrant history. There's this mural that shows an extremely long caravan. I had to trace it from beginning to end and it's very long.

We visited the European Parliament building, but only from the outside.

Limitations
The thing with having a group tour is, there is extremely limited time when visiting the various places. There's also the factor of weather--good thing our visit to Vienna was gifted with fine weather--when it's raining, there's not much we can do about it. Traffic (yes, sometimes congestion happens) also affects travel time.

We were able to visit the European Parliament building because every member of the tour group could catch up.

Food Tip
One glorious tip my friend gave me on Europe food is this: when a restaurant says they're a specific cuisine, look at the staff. If there's nobody from that specific cuisine, it might not be good. Simply put: eating at a Thai restaurant? Staff should be Thai. No Thai staff? Not good.

I wish I got that tip early on. Because we ate at a Japanese restaurant. They are claiming they are a sushi restaurant, but I did not hear the staff speaking Japanese to each other. LMAO.

DK wanted to eat more rice. Surprise, surprise. So I searched for Asian restaurants around the area. There was a Chinese restaurant but it has a very long queue. The other restaurant in front of it was closed. Maybe they take turns to open? Who knows.

I found the sushi restaurant and just hoped that I won't die from food poisoning. Good thing that my third world stomach was able to tolerate everything. DK didn't get sick too. So we were able to eat our fill of rice. At that point I was hoping that our meal would last for a few more days because DK was already complaining that she can't live without eating rice for a few more days.

Culturing Ourself
Part of the tour is attending a music performance in the evening. There was a string quartet and a pair of opera singers. The male opera singer actually looked Asian slash Filipino but we weren't able to confirm. The performance was excellent. I can't tell if they made any mistakes.

Oh, I remember--this is my first time to have a "coat check". That one where you take off your coat and leave it at the lobby and they give you a claim tag. They also discourage bringing bags. And yeah, we weren't dressed for the occasion at all. Good thing that it was tourist friendly so casual clothes were allowed.

More?
So yeah... Vienna was one full day. Other than the not-made-by-Japanese Japanese food that we had, everything was fine. Visiting Vienna showed that there really is a big world out there, and there's a lot of things I haven't seen yet.
